 Dr. (Prof.) V. H. ABDUL SALAM - Principal

Prof. V.H.Abdul Salam is a renowned Civil Engineer. He has versatile professional, academic and administrative experience. He graduated in 1972 with B.Sc. (Engineering) from Kerala University securing the first rank. He obtained his M.Tech degree & Ph.D. from Cochin University of Science & Technology. He was the Head of Engineering Department, CUSAT during 2003-2006. Before assuming charge as the University Engineer of the Cochin University of Science and Technology in 2003, he was the Chief Engineer of Greater Cochin Development Authority under Government of Kerala, where he served for more than 2 decades since 1977. He has served in Kerala State Electricity Board and Government of India in the Central Public Works Department during 1972-1977. The job position he held includes an assignment of PDO Muscat in Sultanate of Oman during the year 1982-’83.

Dr.Abdul Salam is a Fellow of Institution of Engineers (India) and a Fellow of Indian Institution of Bridge Engineers. He is a Life Member of the Indian Society for Technical Education. He is a Sub Committee member of Kerala Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Board Member of the Vigyan Valley Education Trust.

He has served as Chairman, Managing Committee of MES Udyogamandal School (affiliated to the Council of the Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi) and MES Eastern School, Eloor during 2003-2005 in Cochin. He is a Managing Committee Member of N.Musthafa Sahib Memorial M.E.S. Charitable Complex and a Trust member of the Ernakulam Karayogam Charitable Trust.

He has been active as Advisor and Technical Consultant in Construction Project Management to various organizations in our State including Municipalities, Corporations, KHDP, etc. He has number of research publications to his credit. He has visited Europe and Gulf countries.

Presently, Dr.Abdul Salam is the Principal of MES College of Engineering since 2nd April, 2007.

        " The quality of technical education essentially decides the wealth of any nation. The need of the hour in a more professional, clear and meaningful approach towards the professional education system. There is a dire need for strengthening the Industry / Profession –Academia partnership to ensure sustained growth and development. Only the collaborative efforts of Industry and Institutes of academic excellence could take the country along the path of progress. We should nurture the idea of bringing good engineers from Industry /Profession with recoginised professional work of high standard to pitch in. This will nurture multple functions of teaching, research and consultancy (a social relevance) in the technical education system. Educationalists would have to reshape the educational system that would be in harmony with the latest demands,urges,aspirations and expectations of Society."
